Philly: The Ultimate America 250 Photo Tour
February 2, 2026When people think about the American Revolution, they usually think of Boston or Philadelphia. But what if some of the most important moments actually happened in New York City?
In this episode of Photowalks, we head to Lower Manhattan and Brooklyn to uncover New York’s surprisingly central role in the American Revolution — from the moment the Declaration of Independence was read aloud to the troops, to the tearing down of King George’s statue, to New York becoming the first capital of the United States.
We will walk the Revolutionary streets of:
Bowling Green, where rebels toppled the king’s statue, Fraunces Tavern, where George Washington said farewell to his officers, Federal Hall, where Washington was inaugurated as the first president, Trinity Church, where Alexander Hamilton is buried and Stone Street, New York’s oldest block.
Along the way, you’ll see how much history is hiding in plain sight — and how you can photograph it all with your phone.
This is part of our Great American Road Trip series leading up to America’s 250th anniversary, exploring the places where the United States was shaped — one photo walk at a time. 📸 Plus: Smartphone photography tips for shooting iconic locations like Times Square and the Statue of Liberty.
We stayed at the Best Western Premier Herald Square right in the heart of the city https://www.bestwestern.com/en_US/book/new-york/hotel-rooms/best-western-premier-herald-square/propertyCode.33152.html This episode was filmed on multiple iPhones.
