June 21, 2024Atlanta Photo Walk Itinerary
This itinerary is designed to help you explore the city through your camera lens, capturing the best spots and enjoying the vibrant atmosphere. Let’s embark on a memorable photo walk in Atlanta!
Morning | Downtown Atlanta Skyline:
- The downtown skyline provides a magnificent backdrop, making it one of the best places to start your photography adventure in the city. Every city has its iconic skyline views, and Atlanta is no exception. The key is to find the right vantage point. Here we will begin the day by capturing the stunning Atlanta downtown skyline from the Jackson Street bridge. This spot provides a perfect view for capturing the skyline.
- Photography Tip: The best time to shoot skylines is during the Golden Hour, just before and after sunset. You’ll get beautiful colors and the lights from the buildings.
Late Morning | BeltLine:
- Walk along the BeltLine, a 30 minute walk from the Bridge. It is a hub of activity with greenery, murals, and people playing instruments. This is a fantastic place to capture the essence of Atlanta’s culture and community.
- Photography Tip: Look for interesting subjects like people, flowers, and street art to add variety to your photos.
Ponce City Market
- Wrap up the walk at the big market.
- The market is housed in the historic Sears, Roebuck & Co. building, which provides a beautiful backdrop with its industrial charm and architectural details. Inside is a bustling hub with a variety of shops, eateries, and entertainment options. Great for candid street photography.
- Food Photography: With a diverse array of food vendors, Ponce City Market is a great place to practice food photography. Capture the vibrant dishes and the lively market scenes.
- Skyline Views: The rooftop of Ponce City Market, known as “The Roof,” offers great views of the Atlanta skyline. It’s an ideal spot for capturing panoramic shots of the city. And of course, it should be noted that the Roof is best during the golden hour. This is a great time to capture stunning sunset shots and the city lights as they come on.
The view from the top of the Skyline gives you angles from every corner, and it’s a better way to capture the complete downtown. It costs $15 to enter, and another $15 if you want to play games or take the rides that are available up there. Many cities have similar setups, but often are covered in reflective glass. Up at the Skyline, you have wide open, clear space, which is way better for our photography.
You can top off the walk by by strolling two blocks down the street to Irwin Street. There’s the historic Ebenezer Baptist Church that was once home to Martin Luther King Jr. along with MLKing National Park.
