WALKIES: Best out of the way small town, Lubec, Maine
September 9, 2025
Missoula’s Best Photo Spots
September 15, 2025For years, people have asked me the big question–“What’s the best place you’ve ever visited?”
It’s a hard one to answer–there are so many great places and we’ve been to over 120 of them for Photowalks.
So what is it? The Midwest cities of Detroit, Cincinnati, and Cleveland. I loved Paris, Barcelona and many of the great European cities. And I have a soft spot for backroads favorites like Heber City, Utah and Victor, Idaho.

But our best of the best Walkie award goes to the Canadian province of Nova Scotia and the road trip that we took from one end of the island to the other.

You had amazing local color, as in color hues. You had great people and food. You had lower costs than a comparable trip to nearby New England. In fact, we descended upon Nova Scotia when a friend wrote on Facebook that he had just come back from there and it was twice as good as New England with half the price and way fewer tourists. Plus, if you’re lucky enough to visit in October for the Celtic Colors Festival, you’ve got traditional Scottish fiddle music playing on seemingly every street corner and it sounds great.
Don’t miss Cape Breton, which is home to one of the great drives. You’re going to want to visit Peggy’s Cove, the town with only 29 people, yet they have the most photographed lighthouse in Canada. Don’t miss it.

Photowalks airs on Scripps News Sundays at 10 a.m. ET
